Girl Talk
In a 2009 interview with FMLY, Gillis stated:

The name Girl Talk is a reference to many things, products, magazines, books. It's a pop culture phrase.
The whole point of choosing the name early on was basically to just stir things up a little within the small scene I was operating from.
I came from a more experimental background and there were some very overly serious, borderline academic type electronic musicians.
I wanted to pick a name that they would be embarrassed to play with. You know Girl Talk sounded exactly the opposite of a man playing a laptop, so that's what I chose.
Gregg Michael Gillis, better known by his stage name Girl Talk, is an American musician specializing in mashups and digital sampling. Gillis has released five LPs on the record label Illegal Art and EPs on 333 and 12 Apostles.

Remix Culture
Copy left allows you to reproduce, adapt and distribute content freely however Copy right has certain laws which you have to abide by.

Development
On the left is Goofy and on the right is Mickey Mouse. I have chosen these two Walt Disney characters to remix. Walt Disney believes culture builds on the past and they take works that were in the public domain and update them and made it relevant to our age. I was interested to remix the characters i remember in my childhood to see what outcome it would create.
Creating a remix of the two images is seen as illegal as I have used the three circles. Creating three circles is fine but when they are arranged in a certain way they can look similar to the face and ears of Mickey Mouse. Therefore making the drawings above illegal. The link on the left shows examples of how pictures can be seen illegal as they have used the three circles arranged in a way to look like a head of a mouse.
'Expression is a remix of the stuff that happened before'.
I first started drawing Goofy's head then I slowly worked my way down and started to create Mickey's body. I have shown my development and the final outcome.

Extracting components from various works of different people and then combining it all into one to create your own 'NEW' piece of work or outcome. This culture is seen as illegal due to copyright laws.
Looking at Remix Culture I can see that in order for our design culture to move forward, remix is key. As it allows you to break free from rules and laws and you can be the creator of something completely new. Micheal Rock talks about how the creator is the author of something.
‘the person who originates or gives existence to anything’.
It opens new perspectives and allows the author to create something unique.

Nick Bertke is a music artist. His stage name is POGO. I was very interested with one of his works that he remixed. As I have been developing and remixing my Walt Disney characters I came across his work. The website on the left shows you the making of one of his tracks. 'Alice'.
This is a composition of sounds from the Disney film 'Alice in Wonderland'. Since this track was produced he has created more tracks such as 'Toyz Noize', 'Buzzwing', these tracks have been based on another Disney film called Toy Story.
